Understanding Astrological Aspects
Aspects are the angles planets form with one another in a chart, and they describe how those planetary energies interact. A conjunction (0°) blends two planets, a sextile (60°) and trine (120°) create ease and opportunity, while a square (90°) and opposition (180°) generate tension that drives growth. Together they turn a collection of planetary placements into a living, dynamic conversation.
Aspects are usually split into harmonious (sextile, trine) and challenging (square, opposition), but neither is simply “good” or “bad”. Easy aspects give natural talent that can be taken for granted; hard aspects create friction that, once worked with, becomes a source of strength and motivation. The conjunction can go either way depending on the planets involved.
Each aspect operates within an orb — a few degrees of tolerance — and the tighter the orb, the stronger the effect. Use the cards above to explore each aspect in detail, then calculate your natal chart to see which aspects shape your own planetary story.
