The 12 Houses in Astrology

The twelve houses divide a birth chart into twelve areas of lived experience — from identity and money to relationships, career and spirituality. While the signs describe how energy is expressed, the houses describe where it shows up in your life. The wheel begins at the ascendant (1st house) and runs counter-clockwise through to the 12th.

Houses are classified by how they relate to the chart’s angles. Angular houses (1, 4, 7, 10) are the most powerful and action-oriented; succedent houses (2, 5, 8, 11) consolidate and stabilise; cadent houses (3, 6, 9, 12) are about learning, adjustment and transition. The sign on each house cusp and any planets inside it colour how that area of life unfolds.
